Metallic paint (non spray) for a bathroom framed mirror

Lori Darling on Dec 19, 2014It depends on the existing semi-gloss - is it oil based? If it is, and your new paint is acrylic (water based), then the paint won't stick. You might be able to solve that by painting a good primer on the frame first, which I think I would do anyway. The primer will stick to the original paint and your new paint will adhere to the primer. Give it plenty of time to dry - that gives the primer time to set up and adhere - before you add your new color on top of that. Good luck!Helpful Reply

RESAW on Dec 19, 2014I agree with Lori Darling BUT I would sand the item before priming and a light sand after priming.Helpful Reply

Accentuations! on Dec 19, 2014I agree the you should give the frame a light sanding and then a quick spray of Kilz or other primer. You'd like to keep it smooth after all! Then go ahead and paint the color you chose.Helpful Reply
