THRIFT STORE LAMP IS NOW A BEAUTIFUL CANDLEABRA!

I have made several attempts to post photos of the project in progress, but for whatever reason my computer locks up. Hope I can get the problem resolved.

This old lamp has been around a long time, and I think it is time to give it a new life.

    I love it!

If you have never taken a lamp apart, I hope that the following photos will help.
    • Remove the harp that holds the lamp shade on.
    • Unscrew the bulb holder. At this point you could cut the lamp cord, which would make the project a lot quicker. I chose to unassemble as shown in the following photos. The parts were saved for later use.
    • Remove the bottom section of the bulb holder with a screw driver by pushing it off. The screws that hold the lamp cord on to the base of the bulb holder can now be removed.
    • Remove the screws with the screw driver and pull the cord wires until they are free of the base.
    • The lamp cord is now free to remove from the lamp base.
    • This pillar stand was 99 cents at a thrift store. I sprayed WD40 on the sticker and after a few minutes it was softened enough to scrape off.
    • I turned the lamp base upside down to use the wider part for the top. I pushed the arms in enough so that the pillar stand would fit snuggly into them.
    • I used QuikSteel to adhere the pillar stand to the lamp arms. More information about this product in the next photo.
    • QuikSteel is used to adhere many different surfaces and works great when using metal to metal. It's like putty & dries in 15 minutes and is completely cured in an hour. Gorilla Glue works well also.
    • The cap (finial) that held the lamp shade on was perfect for covering the metal pipe that contained the lamp cord.
    • There it is! The finished stand that will be so versital. For now I will use the old junk store $12 candle holder. It is filigree metal, and obviously hand made!...one of my favorite "finds".

A couple more photos of the finished project.
    • The pumpkin looks good for halloween & fall.
    • A metallic pumpkin brightens it up.
    • A centerpiece with a short pillar candle looks nice, too.

Becky, thanks so much! I almost gave up. The problem started when I used the feature to upload multiple pictures simultaneously. My computer got confused, and I got confused, but patience won out!

Thanks, Michelle. I will enjoy this year round. I can use it inside or on my screened porch where I have it now. In spring and summer it would look nice with a pot of ivy or trailing vine.

You're most welcome Pat aka Queen of Thrift.

I didn't realize there was the option to upload more than one photo at a time. Guess that's why I've not had any trouble loading.Though I have been able to start a second picture while loading the first I always wait until the first is all but loaded. If it takes too long I just play a game of Solitaire. :^)

I think it's amazing that you looked at that lamp and saw a candelabra in it. So creative!

Becky, when I open my picture album or file, a popup tells me that I can choose a photo, press & hold the control key then click on the chosen photo. I can do this multiple times and when I have chosen all photos that I want to post, press "open", and they will (or should) all download.....one at a time. I have done this before and it worked, but last night I had more photos than before. Somewhere along the line something bogged down.

Lisa, thanks so much. I guess I am gifted that way. Things don't always turn out as well as I would like, but I'm always looking at objects with ideas for repurposing.

Thanks for explaining that Pat aka Queen of Thrift. I can do that in Photobucket, but I've never been prompted to do that here. I wonder if it's the browser I'm using? No big deal since the photos have been loading quite fast for the most part.

The prompt is part of my picture library. My husband thinks that the problem was in Hometalk's system.

Becky you will not be able to choose multiple photos at a time if you are using Internet Explorer 8. Pat, I'm really sorry you were having trouble with uploading, but I'm glad you figured it out. Please contact me by email help@hometalk.com if you experience any issues in the future.
