Cracked cement
-
Sharon Russell on Dec 28, 2014Our cement floor in the basement was cracked all over when we bought our old house to redo for a retirement project. We bought cement patching and filled all the cracks. It took days and then of course it looked awful, all these darker gray lines and streaks, so we got a can of Epoxy in tan. It came with chips you could add but I thought they looked too industrial and ugly, so as my husband rolled the epoxy on the floor, I sprinkled a bit of gold glitter around here and there. It looks like fairy dust now. We love it. It also sealed the concrete and we no longer leave white footprints on the carpets going upstairs.Helpful Reply

V Valencia on Dec 28, 2014I think if it is a safety hazard then you have to fix the cracks as mention by Sharon Russell. Otherwise, you can incorporate the cracks into a painted space. Here is an example I came across.Helpful Reply

Sharon Russell on Dec 28, 2014V. Valencia I really like your painted vine and leaves! Our basement, like so many, is so dark and gloomy. And cold, since it's all concrete including the walls. Didn't want to carpet again, learned our lesson there when a pipe burst. So the Epoxy was a perfect answer for our project, and now with throw rugs scattered around it looks nicer and brighter. (The grandkids get the biggest kick out of following the Fairy Trail...lol)Helpful Reply

Carmen Stuart on Dec 28, 2014Repairing the crack just shows up worse later on. I Painted a base coat with cement paint after pressure washing and then speckles another like- but not the same- color over the whole thing, and then added another contrasting color to pick up the color in the brick house, creating a sort of camouflage . You can see the crack but not as noticeable with the medley of colors.Helpful Reply

Jane R. on Dec 28, 2014You can also lay tile over the entire surface. If you can get discontinued tile it shouldn't cost very much. My neighbors entire front porch is tile. It looks so nice.Helpful Reply
