Backsplash for kitchen

MaryStLouis on Dec 29, 2014I don't think that it would look bad, depending on the shade of gold. Is it a golden yellow or more a spicy mustard gold?Helpful Reply

MaryStLouis on Dec 29, 2014I love the color. Tickertape or Wedding Bells would be good off-whites to consider since they both show up as the lightest shades on the Valspar color chips for Lamplight. Try buying some samples, paint large squares of color on a white foam board and live with them for a while, looking at the color changes during different times of the day and night.Helpful Reply

Darla on Dec 30, 2014Our kitchen is painted Behr's "Butter Cookie", a light warm yellow. In my experience, Behr paint covers better than Valspar.Helpful Reply

Linda J on Dec 30, 2014I have used a shade of gold in the kitchen. With white cabinets, may I suggest you not go too dark. And, as always, you can paint only the backsplash before investing time and money to see if you like it!Helpful Reply

Linda J on Dec 30, 2014@Alice I was thinking. I would suggest you address the countertop before committing to a shade of gold. Without sounding like a know-it-all, I am a retired residential designer and I can tell you the countertop will play a very large roll in the color choice for the walls. Also, I would be OK to use two shades in this space. Maybe darker on the backsplash and lighter on the walls. Consider how the light is going to effect this color also. Usually you would put the darker color where you have more light exposure. Of course, at the end of the day, you are the boss! I hope these suggestions help.! Happy New Year to you and yours!Helpful Reply

Linda J on Dec 30, 2014Yea! That is exactly what I would normally do. That can throw a lot of people. Too many choices, usually. Sounds like you have a comfort level with that approach. NOW GIRL, select your color scheme from the fabric. Remember to vary the intensity of the colors, i.e. lighter hues and darker tints of the same colors. Kinda like looking at a paint chart, you know, light to dark. You will be surprised at the interest you will create in your space by using this little trick. Good luck!Helpful Reply

Terry on Jan 04, 2015The gold and white scheme is great, although a nice butter yellow might work as well. Also, think about adding an accent color. Red would look fabulous with the white and gold or yellow.Helpful Reply
