What can be done with white tile kitchen counters other than remove
with cracked and ugly ceramic tile. The dark cabinets can be painted to brighten up the
space but counter top not so much. Please help.

Scottie Vosburgh on Jan 03, 2015She could break apart the tile and make a mosaic counter. She could probably easily get her hands on some cool pieces of tile to add especially if she was just going to break them up anyway. She could glue/screw/secure a piece of wood on top of the tile counter and trim it out in the front and sides and make a counter top out of that- stain/paint/seal it. She could fill in the grout lines as best she can and cover the entire top with brown kraft paper then seal it with floor grade poly. We did that over ugly formica countertops. It was great.Helpful Reply

Funnygirl on Jan 03, 2015Would love to see a picture of Scottie's kraft paper countertops.I agree with her,to remove the broken tiles, replace with similar size tiles,Paint all the tiles with gripper primer and then paint the color of her choice on the tiles and grout.I think an enamel paint would be the way to go,hopefully a special top coat will not be necessary, would check with someone at the paint store that seems to know what he is talking about.you can also just do a small section first to see if you like the results!Helpful Reply

Vickie Johnson on Jan 04, 2015I just finished redoing mine last year because I could not afford to replace it. I lightly sanded it down. Painted ii with smooth sponge roller and took small kitchen sponges and 4 colors of craft paint and began dabbing the colors on to give it a marbleized look and top coated 4 times with Mini Wax indoor/outdoor spar polyurethane. It turned out so well that co workers have asked for the instructions. It has held up thru all kitchen wear and tear and still looks great. Total cost - about $20.00Helpful Reply

Lynn Rainsford on Jan 08, 2015My sister in law covered hers with a great contact paper, and it looks so nice, and you can change it when you get tired of it, making a new look whenever.Helpful Reply
