Frogs in my house

by Inge
I have frogs coming into my house and "living" in a space they choose for them. We catch them and release them, just so that they can return within a few days.
Any ideas how to prevent them from entering the house?

Have you looked all around the house (inside AND outside) for any small opening? We had an issue with skunks and possums in our storm shelter under our house. My husband (who is a specialist in pest control) couldn't figure out how the critters kept getting in. Everything "seemed" sealed and snug inside and outside of the house. It happened to snow one morning and he went outside to check once more. Amazingly there were small paw prints leading to the house and no more...as if whatever had created the prints had "walked" right through the side of the house!! He looked a little further and found that the siding was loose at the site of the paw prints. He lifted it slightly and found a hole that was big enough for a small animal to have crawled through!! Had he never seen the paw prints in the snow, we would never have figured it out. I'm saying all this to illustrate that you can't assume, even though everything may look normal, you never know. Look closely (especially around the outside of your home) under shrubbery, rocks, etc for any opening large enough for these frogs (and you didn't mention the size) to be getting in. I would look for locations that seem to have moisture (frogs usually like a lot of moisture). If not...then I would call a specialist to do an inspection. They can usually fix the problem. Good Luck!!

My mind boggles. Frogs, skunks, etc.??? Guess everybody needs a home. Unreal. Have had a cricket once, an ant or two on occasion, but no mice since I inherited my cat, Allie. Laurie T has good advice.

Make a water area - small pond, half barrel with water and water lilies, whatever to attract your frogs to use that instead. Frogs will travel miles to get back to where they were born and to spawn and create more frogs. If they are biologically programmed to do that, then far better it be a pond rather than inside your home. You should make sure there are rocks and stuff for them to shelter under as they won't want to be in water all the time. They will keep the mosquitos down. If you get frog eating snakes in your area, don't put your pond too close to the house where it might invite snakes. Above all, do what you can to help the frogs. These creatures are being decimated by fungal skin diseases and the health of frogs is an indicator of the health of our planet.
