Laminate flooring, must the colors match?

Ideally, I would put down the same color of flooring throughout the house but I couldn't find a match at all to what I already have so I picked what I liked even though it isn't the same. The two floors will only meet in a small doorway. Have I committed a huge no no ?

It's not ideal but people do it all the time. If you want to, you can separate the floors with a strip of tile or marble, or simply butt them together using a transition strip of the new flooring.

I suggest you go with a radically different colour so it looks deliberate and also think about the way you put the laminate down - is it possible to turn the different one the opposite way to the one already down? We have 2 different laminates in the house - a beech for downstairs and white oak for upstairs. Like wallpaper, laminate pressings come in batches - personally, I would make a statement of the two colours - but if they are meant to be the same you need something to offset the two at the point of joining - and if people say something - just say it's the way the light falls on them!

Things like this ultimately boil down to personal taste. If you like what you see then go ahead, that's what transition strips are for. :)
