Marion Nesbitt on Jan 08, 2015Please don't paint high-quality wood. I'd just clean them up well with mineral spirits/paint thinner and steel wool, make sure any residual bits are cleaned off with more mineral spirits, do some stain touch-up if necessary, and apply a couple of coats of poly. Have done lots of this on wood in my 100+ year old home.Helpful Reply

We washed them with Dawn liquid, rinsed, and dried them. We then touched up the finish with a matching stain and then used the dark wax on the chairs. They look fabulous and the chairs were not in very good condition. I would think the product would work for cabinets too. The wax comes in medium and in light too. I found a You Tube video by the Japcol manufacturer that was helpful.Helpful Reply

Nora Strom-Goodburn on Jan 08, 2015If you have access to someone who sells Norwex - the enviro cloth - just using water and a bit of muscle the "dirt" comes off very well - my sisters husband cooks wild game with lots of butter/grease and her daughter used the enviro cloth to clean her cupboards - the results were amazing to say the least!Helpful Reply

Tracy on Jan 10, 2015My oak cabinets were the same way. I took off the knobs and cleaned the cabinets similar to Marion Nesbitt's suggestion. I then put handles (you have to drill a second hole) on the cupboards instead of a knobs. Your hand does not touch the wood with handles. Most new kitchens have 2 to 4 different types of complimentary knobs so I figured I could too. I would not paint them unless you want a different look. I have painted cupboards before and it is MUCH work and time.Helpful Reply
