How to restain wooden floors

I have natural wood floors that have been scratched up due to dining room chairs... I would like to stain again with out all the sanding. Is that possible?

Not if they are scratched. You need to level out the surface or the scratches will show once stained.

voice of experience; a light floor sander will make all the difference; that's not as bad as having to move everything out

How deep are the scratches? If they are only sealant-deep, then you can get away with a gritty buff and reapply the poly. But if they're wood-deep, you'll have to do the whole enchilada and even out the floor with a real sanding.

There is a product by rust-oleum called renewal, a three step process, in one pkg. a weekend to do, amazing stuff, no sanding involved

@Sharbearpaintperson Thank you... thats what I've been looking for. The scratches are only on the surface, nothing deep. I think this will work great!

If you do rent a circular sander, they are very sensitive. Turn it on and try to hold it perfectly still. Then you will see how the slightest movement will get it moving. My sons did this so they could restain the old hardwood to match the new hardwood. It worked well.

@Sanyta Sassie Saunders what I have learned from others refinishing their homes, sanding will make the process more successful. If you do the other quick fixes, which may be ok for a quick resell, they may not last and you would need to repeat the process again in the near future. If you do it right the first time it will last a longer period of time. Might I also suggest some felt pads under your chairs when you have the renewed look, the finish will look great for a longer time.
