Paint color suggestions for cabinets

This is our kitchen in our new house. Don't want to change the paneling yet. Also don't want to paint cabinets white. Any suggestions?

How about a pale sage green. Then you can stencil on small Ivy leaves and vines in the lower corners, or pansies or any small colorful flower. Bring the outside in. If you like French Country you could try a lovely cream and add blue flowers and maybe a small blue and white checked curtain at the window. Let us know what you decide. Luck to you.

Charcoal grey with a neat silver handle. You could use just about any color to accent with.

I notice you have white appliances and a light color counter top, you can try painting them white as a base color then use a stain to antique them and add a 3/4 shoe base trim to highlight around the doors and drawers and add the trim in the center to make them have a 2 1/2" between the two and change hardware

Sherwin Williams Spalding Grey goes nicely with our red mahogany doors in kitchen. Just the right touch to cool things down but compliments the warm tones of the wood

Paint the cabinets white. Get a faux counter top kit and faux paint the counter top to give it a more modern feel. The paneling walls would look good painted a sage green with white trim. Accents of sage green, yellow and brown for curtains, chair seat coverings/cushions.

I painted my cabinets a soft white and the doors a medium sage green. It has a very vintage vibe I've played up with accessories. Be sure to use at least a semi gloss for easier clean up.

It's hard to suggest colors when we don't know what your preferences are. I would search up top where it says "Search how to's". You may write something like "painted kitchen cabinets". You may get inspiration and techniques from other posts to inspire you. Good luck. I hope you post pictures.

Looking to soften it up and tone down the woodsy feel of all that paneling? A very, pale creamy blush color would be lovely with the dark wood and not too 'pink'. Might help lighten and brighten the room and add some fun and personality. Good luck! I'd love to see the finished project, it looks like you have an adorable space to work with. ~Ali

We painted our kitchen which had paneling all around it, a creamy off white in satin and the doors in black. It is stunning, well according to everyone that sees it, and we like it too. It really brightened our kitchen as well as updated it. Good luck with your decision :)

@John Rennoldson I agree with @Ali Foster Claypoole in using a soft tone of paint. I would suggest a soft beige/off white. This would be more cohesive with the paneling and there would be no fight between the two areas for eye attention, rather the eye would flow through the area. You can check the colour charts for paint on line.

I think I would keep the color and paint the paneling. It's an easy fix then if you still don't like the color you have options and it will brighten up the kitchen.

Definitely paint the paneling! That's going to make a huge difference in lightning up and enlarging the appearance of the space. Then decide on what to do with the cabinets.

Duck egg blue for the cabinets. I think it won't clash too much with the dark surrounds. Or a nice French grey.

Find the panels are dark and gloomy. Not much wonder they did the cabinets in a sunny yellow. I'd paint the panels and then decide on the cabinet colour..

Ok, Here's my 2 cents..,1st I don't know if you like, or want to keep the dark paneling as is, or change it. If you want to change it. I would take it down & dry wall the whole kitchen. If that is too expensive then you can paint it whatever color you want. You will need to sand it down to remove the varnish or poly on it. If you don't like the knots in the paneling, you can spackle & sand it smooth. You can expand it to the room next to the kitchen if you so desire. I would paint it based on whatever colors you choose for the rest of the kitchen. Getting back to the kitchen, I would take down the piece above the sink to open it up & give it cleaner lines. I would add thin trim in a rectangle on each door to give them some interest. Then paint the bottom cabinets a dark color, black, charcoal grey, if you want a pop of color dark royal blue, or even red. For the top cabinets, add the same trim, then paint them a creamy white. I would change the knobs to a nickel or silver.That's it.

We are keeping the paneling for now and would rather not paint it. Definitely have received some great ideas. Can't wait to close on the house and start to paint.

Since you have said that you don't want to paint the cabinets white, I would still try to go with a lighter neutral paint to keep it light because you have so much brown in the room and the adjacent space. Benjamin Moore Thunder Cloud Grey is a beautiful shade that will enhance the dark wood and floor and look really nice with the white appliances. I suggest a soft gray or warm, cozy, brick red on the cabinets. My kitchen is basically in a walkout basement, so we painted the walls & cabinets a bright white(cabinet doors in a pickle finish). Accents are red, navy and forest green.

I know that Craftsman style house have a lot of wood in their interiors. They often used a green hued paint on walls or cabinets. I have wood wainscoting in my home and I have painted the pale olive green on my walls and it is beautiful. I thought it would make the room dark, but it is very soothing and beautiful. I use pale yellow as an accent color.
