What kind of paint do you use to paint a rug?

I have a runner in the entry way that looks real bad but in good shape. Can't find one I would want to buy. Need help Char B YELM, WA

What material is the rug made of? Many materials can be painted using craft paint mixed with a fabric medium but it can depend on the pile style and backing as well.

Runner in the entry would get lots of traffic. I would try mixing a small amount of marine paint with fabric medium. Paint a corner on back side and see how it works before painting the entire thing. If the pile is deep, you will be painting a long time

It's made out of indoor/outdoor. I paid $45.00 for it 9 yrs ago then water proofed it. What is fabric medium? Have not heard of it.

You can use chAlk paint on it. I did this on an indoor outdoor rug on my patio.  Use a spray bottle of water to keep the material slightly damp and when your paint is dry use wax on its and let that dry really well maybe a week before walking on it. Look on YouTube.com for some great tutorials.

Make sure Rug is clean by using a RUG DOCTOR (Hired) Cleaner from your DIY store. It might suprise you and clean up well!
