Will lavender help keep the neighborhood cats away?

We have 6 roaming cats in our yard. No tags but owner says they are spayed. I didn't mind them until they started making my new patio cushions their lounge - hair & claw marks present.
Any success with lavender deterring cats? I don't want to get a dog, b-b gun, or spray/urine b/c I have small children. Animal control cages seems to be my next route.

Cover your cushions with plastic for a few days. Sprinkle cayenne pepper. The cats will leave.

Cats seem to hate foil. I used aluminum foil in the house on leather furniture edges and it kept my own cats off the furniture. I've read they don't like the smell of orange and to use orange peels around garden areas. :)

Foil is a great idea. Also, if you catch the kitties on the patio, use a spray bottle with plain water in it to shoo them. After getting spritzed a couple of times they won't want to come back.

Please don't use cayenne.spay them with water bottle if you can. Foil does work. A motion detector that barks.

I have found that any thing that smells of citrus acid works extremely well as a deterrent with regards to felines. You can easily use anything from lemon rinds to oranges even grapefruit is nasty to them. I'd recommend using the real juice as a spray in a squirt bottle, as mentioned above excellent choice also for directly just quick squirt to alarm them. Nothing harmful it just startles them. And as mentioned above aluminum foil also works great. Another hair brained idea I have resorted to is the use of chimes in unsuspecting areas again with the purpose to strictly scare them away. I hope any one of these remedies work for you. Best of Luck.

The stray cats around my house LOVE my lavender. I don't think it discourages them at all.

Perhaps startle & scare them off with a lot of loud noise, such as banging metal pots & pans, a few times when you catch them napping in your yard? I once sprayed a cat that was hanging out in my yard with my garden hose and never saw it again.

I had installed a pool on the property and with all the loose dirt around the sides of the pool brought in the stray cats to use as a litter box anyway I took crushed red peppers and sprinkled them all over the place, that got rid of the cats and even kept them away.

Most cats love lavender. It's has a calming effect on them. Menthol, like vick's vapor rub, is something most cats dislike. Be kind.....

U could purchase one of those motion detector sprinkler that works for deer. Of course u will have to turn it off when u want to use furniture. lol. Consider covering the seats with gauzy material ;their claws get caught in it and they don't come back or mesh of some sort. Try putting the cushions up .They like warmth and comfort. If they hop on the back, it will fall & they won't try again. Good luck with the pests.

I've heard that you can use tinfoil. The cats will step on it, and won't like the feel.

Sounds like they are strays. Borrow a cage and take them to an animal shelter?
