Hole in Wall to Wine Storage

Who puts a hole in the wall? Even if it is framed. And what do you do with it if you have one? Don't get me wrong, I love it now. I had jars up here but decided to put all the wine I had here instead and it is easier to get to.
Sometimes I would decorate for Christmas, or just put pictures of my daughter up here. Lots of choices but now it is a wine cabinet.

The previous owners had put a peg board up here for a sliding door. Very ugly. I strung up Christmas lights to light it and then you can decorate any way you want.
You can read more on my blog. Thanks for looking, Cheryl

@Cheryl Borns as a fellow wine drinker I can really appreciate this use of space. One suggestion I would make is to use clay cylinders to place the bottles in - would make it easier to pull the bottles out to see if it is the wine you want. We did this in the basement for our wine storage area but used pvc piping, which I guess you could use here as well but you may have to spray paint it to make more decorative.
  • What a great idea! I wanted to buy wooden wine boxes but the winery sells them for $60 a box. That is wayyyyy more than I wanted to pay. I was racking my brain for something that would be easy to get the bottles out and cheap. Never thought of your idea but I am going to do that now, thank you.

@Cheryl Borns I thought they looked cool but more labour intensive. If it were me I would opt for the pvc only for the ease of transforming. Could do a subtle colour coding for white, red - cab, merlot, shiraz etc. Do post pics of what you do I would love to see it!
