Texas A&M lists the best times for planting spring vegetable seed in San Antonio here: http://bexar-tx.tamu.edu/earth-kind-horticulture/best-plants-for-bexar-county-south-texas/recommmended-vegetable-varieties-for-spring-planting/ I must caution you that citrus usually does not come true from seed, so it is unlikely you will get an edible lemon, but if you want to give it a shot, start it in a pot indoors and move it outside after all danger of frost has passed.

Get a copy of the Farmer's Almanac. it will tell you when to plant what crops. My mom used this guide when she planted her garden.

I am in the Mid Atlantic region and am not sure what zone you are. If you start your plants indoor to get an early start you need to figure out when you can safely plant outside and back track planting date from there. Also starting seeds indoor AND direct planting outside for beginners can be challenging. How deep, how much water etc. Sometimes with a rookie, buying started plants gets you going and gives you a better chance for success not to mention instant gratification. You can inch your way into growing your own etc. Start with a small garden and expand each year so you don't get overwhelmed. Good luck!

Debbie, I live just west of San Antonio. Please email me and I can give you more information than what I can tell you here. Information on a great gardening website where you can find more info on our area, including plant swaps we hold twice a year. I'm at soriano471 @sbcglobal.net
