Douglas Hunt on Nov 07, 2012Looking good, Deven. Your losing your cilantro probably had nothing to do with pruning. It's very hard to keep cilantro going in the heat of summer because it's a plant that likes cool, moist temperatures. When things heat up, it "bolts," flowering and setting seeds quickly, which is a survival mechanism for the plant. You will have the best luck with cilantro by planting in the spring and in the fall, and mulching the soil to help keep it cool. It is the ground temperature, rather than the air temperature, that sends the plant the signal to produce seed.
