Well I gave it a try and after spending mucho money find that I just can't get enthused about quilting. Have 3 pattern that I really love but won't do because I don't have the dedication or talent.
Any suggestions. Love crafting and fabrics but quilting just doesn't work for me.

Just curious as to why you thought you would like quilting? Did you see finished quilts, or have friends that quilt? I have seen over the years that new quilters often chose a pattern that is too difficult. Have you thought of attending a quilt guild? Guilds offer a lot of support and usually classes or workshops that might help. I don't know what guilds are in Chula Vista, but I belong to a great guild in El Cajon and I could send you the info if you'd like. If you truly don't want to continue, offer your items for sale on Craig's list or something like that. Or maybe you could find a quilter who would make the quilts for you! Good luck to you Joann!

Hi Anita, yes I took a class and have friends that quilt. But something in my make up just doesn't allow me to get excited. Maybe my nerves, old age (79) or just not the right attitude. I have some really beautiful quilts that I love But!!!!! I love choosing the fabrics but the mechanics of putting a quilt together is daunting and those that have tried to help me talk over my head and confuse me. I'm the type of person that has to be shown with a lot of patients. Anyway you get the picture. I am going to try a cute "house" quilt pattern. Husband went out and bought me a beautiful sewing machine with all,the whistles and bells. I could have died. It's a lovely jesture but my Singer Feather Weight was just right for a machine challenged person as me, ha. I'm not too bad at crafting so I guess I'll stick with that. Thanks for your reply and interest.

My guild is Sunshine Quilters of San Diego. We meet the second Tuesday of the month (February 10 is the next meeting). We meet at Renette Park in El Cajon at 7, doors open at 6:30. Guest fees are $5, but if are coming I will give you one of my guest passes. We are having an excellent speaker, you might enjoy her. Let me know what you decide.

I don't know what is in your area, but our local quilt shop offers beginning quilting classes. It is a way for them to get more customers and for some of us that have never quilted before learn from an expert. The ladies there know we know nothing about quilting so they simplify everything for us. Maybe look into something like this in your area.

I would suggest you start by making a rag quilt. It is the easiest of quilts and it is done in a flash so you see results sooner which makes the process more enjoyable...

Have you thought of doing a rag quilt first? They say they are forgiving, that's what i am about to try

Watch some Missouri Star Quilt Company video's on You Tube, thats how I'm learning and love it so far I have made 2 queen size easy quilts and 2 easy baby quilts just from watching their videos, from there you can expand to more complicated actual patterns. I am having a blast. Jeri

Wish we could get together. I love to quilt, but have an awful time choosing fabrics.

Thank all of you Hometalkers for your thoughtfull advise. Most of the advise I have already tried but with a little more thought and encouragement I think I will reconsider and give it another try. Anita Erskine I appreciate your kind offer but I don't drive after dark. I'm legally blind in my right eye and night lights aren't kind to me! However, I will check out guilds here in Chula Vista. Thank you all

Anita Erskine talked to a neighbor and she told me of a church group that I'm going to contact.

I need small to med. print scraps of material in bright colors for a small wall hanging house themed quilt. All pattern pieces are straight lines so I think I can do this with a little studying and a few adjustment that will make it easier for me to sew. Any quilters that have scraps that fit the above discription please let me know if and how much you might be willing to sell them for. Thanks again fellow Hometalkers.
