Why is chalk paint so amazing? Kitchen laminate cabinets still scared!
-
Patricia on Jan 23, 2015Chalk paint adheres well to a variety of surfaces without priming. I have used it over laminated furniture before with good results. However, I have found there is a difference to the feel of it versus painting over wood, especially during sanding. I'm not sure if I am explaining that well, but what I suppose I am trying to say is that it will still feel like laminate. I also give it a longer drying and setting time when painting over laminate. Before painting an entire set of kitchen cabinets, I would recommend finding a laminated door or cabinet at a Re-Store or thrift store and test it out first. I would love to hear how it turns out if you move forward with your project!Helpful Reply

Creative Interiors By Connie on Jan 23, 2015Go onto Pintrest . Search for Creative Interiors by Connie. Click on my board Paints and how to. I have a post on there about painting laminate . This will be very helpful for you. I would never paint kitchen cabinets with chalk paint. Even waxed, it doesn't react well to moisture. Let me know if you find my article to be helpful.Helpful Reply

Creative Interiors By Connie on Jan 23, 2015Chalk pain is great on furniture and accessories, especially with several coats of wax on them. I wash or clean my cabinets in the kitchen about every 3 months just to keep them in excellent condition. The chalk paint does not react well to moisture at all.Helpful Reply

Joyce Wagner on Jan 24, 2015Here is a link to information about painting kitchen cabinets on Annie Sloan's site. Basically the shinier the surface, the less likely it will adhere well, but they encourage you to go ahead and do it. It says for kitchen cabinets to apply two coats of paint and two or three coats of wax. Here is the link: http://www.anniesloan.com/acatalog/Painting_Kitchens_using_Chalk_Paint.htmlHelpful Reply

9530106 on Jan 25, 2015Lori, are you referring to cabinets that are wood veneer (many are), rather than shiny, slick laminate? That would make a difference in your prep and application, but I personally would not paint cabinets with chalk paint, for durability reasons.Helpful Reply
