Marion Nesbitt on Jan 26, 2015Most importantly - are you prepping the surface for painting? Or wanting to strip the original finish for staining? If painting, the object is to degloss. Use a gritty, abrasive cleanser that you probably have under your sink and scrub the curvy areas with a toothbrush. Rinse well, let dry, apply a high adhesive primer. If staining, I would use a chemical stripper. You can wrap small pieces of steel wool around whatever object you have at hand to remove the guck from the curves.Helpful Reply

Shirley Whitfield on Jan 26, 2015I painted mine about 15 years ago & still love them! They were stained a very dark finish & I wanted white , my hubby sanded them & I painted them with a pittsbure paint called Diamond Hard . They are sill just as white as new ! i do have to touch them up sometime [maybe once a year ] & then its only where the handels are , takes me about 10 minutes . I have never been sorry !Helpful Reply
