Country Garden Style Decor

Recently, I came across a blog post that expressed the author's relief at NOT being able to build a dream home early in her life. Before she really knew what her style of decor was, or what she loved and preferred in interiors, she went on to say how much her tastes had changed and evolved over her years of home keeping.
Nature inspired
It made me stop and think about what has influenced my preferred style of decorating in my home.
There is no doubt that my love of English gardens, roses and the tranquil pastoral lifestyle of the English country side has had a large influence on how I decorate here, at Acorn Lane.

From my preference of the colour green in fabric and collections, the garden has had a strong influence on my decorating style.
From green cabbage leaf china...
to green, pastoral toile fabric on upholstered chairs.
Vintage, rose chintz cushion covers.
I have been hoarding fabric that I come across, that has a botanical touch for years!
Roses, playing a large role in my decorating preferences.
On lampshades in the guest room...
and on the bed covers,
the furniture I paint...
and outdoor elements I bring indoors, like statuary and plants.
....and, always one or two birds! I think we all evolve over time, as we become older and develop a criteria for what makes us feel comfortable and happiest in our surroundings. I seldom rush into a decorating project for my own home. If I'm looking for something specific, I will wait for the right piece. I never buy something just to fill a space!
My own garden, has over the years of living here, offered the greatest inspiration for decorating...after all Nature is the best teacher!
