Help with Mod Podge and bubbles

I tried to adhere a poster to a TV tray, and there were so many bubbles, I ended up ruining the poster trying to get them out. I called the manufacturer to find out best method. She stated to put a layer on the backside of the poster and the top side of the tv tray, let dry, then do again, then apply. Second poster, same thing happened. I use a wall paper smooth edge to take the bubbles out, but they just don't go away even after 30 minutes of pushing them around! Any suggestions?

Hi there, I feel so bad that you ruined your project. I don't know the answer but I did see some youtube videos on how to do it without bubbles. You should go and check it out. Good luck

I believe you need to gently heat the area with a blow dryer (low air flow/high heat) while it's drying and it will make the bubbles come up and disperse. (Saw this on an old episode of 'She's Crafty' - ION Life)

...an embossing heater would also work I believe. Just be careful since that blows hotter air.

Thanks. I've watched all of the YouTube videos on deco, but hadn't heard about heat. I'm about to start on poster 3 so will give that a whirl. Thanks !

Another way : while glue/mod podge is still wet is to pick tiny pin holes in the poster and gently press the captured air out. . If bubbled area is too large for this and you have a part of the design that can overlap the part next to it, after it dries cut 3 sides with exacto knife, gently lift and lay/roll back. Apply thin layer of glue and roll back down from uncut edge, gently pressing down and smoothing as you roll it down. Wet paper stretches but will usually shrink back as it dries. Try not to rub or pull it while it is damp. You might have a white edge along the cut to recolor using ink pen dots.

Yuo should try using a pin and stick tiny holes in the bubbles and then smooth them down easily.
