Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Nov 17, 2012Look in to Schluter systems. They offer all types of materials that work great for complete water proofing of walls and floors for showers and bath areas. http://www.schluter.com/ If you Google the product you should be able to find somewhere local to purchase this. It is not available everywhere but can be ordered on line.Helpful Reply

KMS Woodworks on Nov 18, 2012My local HD carries kits as well and the PVC membrane by the foot. http://www.homedepot.com/buy/oatey-60-in-x-72-in-pvc-shower-pan-liner-kit-41620.html#.UKkA5OTBFJsHelpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Nov 18, 2012The kit KMS talked about is for pans only. This membrane also needs to be covered with a cement mud surface prior to tile. The Schluter system once fastened to the walls or floors gets tile applied directly over it. But the PVC membrane does work. It was the system used to replace the old lead pans in shower areas.Helpful Reply

Pam H on Nov 22, 2012Thanks everyone who responded to my question about waterproof membrane for shower floor and wall. Does anyone have a better idea for something to use that would seal the seam where tile walls meet tile floors in shower area? This will be the last remodel in this room so we want it to be right and want it to last!Helpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Nov 22, 2012What kind of floor are you using? Tile, prefab? If your using the membrane the rubber or what ever, it needs to be at least above the door opening. Then using caulk between the floor and the wall will prevent issues.Helpful Reply

Pam H on Nov 22, 2012We are doing a basement bath, so, it will be tile over concrete. Will definitely use it above shower door base. If the floor is tile and so is the wall, where do we caulk if the membrane is there? Sorry if this is a stupid question!Helpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Nov 22, 2012You caulk at the intersection between the floor and the wall. No stupid at all. Are you in stalling a mud floor to pitch to the drain? Here is an example of the system as a whole. The only thing the wall should be on top of the floor. http://www.thetiledoctor.com/installations/st_showers.cfmHelpful Reply
