How do I paint white Formica kitchen counter?

Ulf Virtanen on Jan 28, 2015Guessing the surface is melamine. If so give it a good sanding with 150-200 grit sandpaper then use some sort of degreaser on the surface. Apply a coat of melamine primer and then 1-3 topcoats. I cant list any specific brands as i live in Finland but they will advise you further in your local paint store.Helpful Reply

Kathy on Jan 29, 2015The most important thing is the priming...then you can be as creative as you want! There are some incredible primers for slick surfaces that really work...clean the surface, sand it a bit and see if you can find X I M Primer for slick surfaces. It is really great....I was hired to re do a fireplace surround that was slick dark green marble tiles and make it look like cream travertine...It was easy with the X I M primer and turned out great....and I could not sand the tiles! so I am sure it would give you a great base for your counter top! Make sure you seal it with several top coats!Helpful Reply
