Pink tile bathroom - is there a market for these fixtures?

We are getting ready to demolish (YAY!!!) this hideous original pink bathroom. I have only lived with it for about 7 months, and my husband has apparently put his blinders on and has lived with it for a number of years without noticing how PINK it is. The cabinet maker happened to mention to us how nice the tiles still look, and said we should sell them. Is there a market out there for this type of things, to make us want to be careful dismantling the bathroom? Original toilet, sink, toilet paper holder, towel bars and tub. I personally will not pack this stuff up and ship it, but was just wondering.

My mother in law had the same pink vanity unit at her house in New Zealand. If the wall tiles are in such good condition, why not save some $$ and use tile paint on them to change the colour rather than remove. Unless of course you are changing the layout of the bathroom completely and need to remove them anyway?? If you painted your bath (there are professional companies that do this) then you need only spend up big on your vanity and could chose something really knockout with the money you save on tiles and a new bath to really make a statement piece in that room??

Nothing wrong with tossing it on craigslist or ebay to see if you get any bites!

Might be a bit of a trick to get the backs cleaned up for reuse. It's probably more time consuming than it's worth for a "maybe" sale. Like the suggestion for painting them if you aren't changing the layout.

Someone in this area put pink tiles in their front yard with a "free" sign. They finally threw them out a year later.

Our house was built in 1958 and had these hideous tiles and fixtures as well. We just had a pink demolition party! We got out the hammers and just had a high old time. Our kids loved it! Have fun if that's what you decide to do with yours. Our house even had fuzzy pink wallpaper on the ceiling (Those fabulous 60's) Good luck!

I would take pictures of them and post them on ebay. I would think that all the "mid-century modern" people would love it. Pink is actally not bad if paired with gray or a darker, muted shade of pink.

Try Craigs List! You might be surprised at what sell on the site.

On the off chance that you still have some of the tile boxes, the batch or run numbers would make the tiles valuable for replacement for damaged tiles. It is work to clean of the backs, but someone that needs tiles of the same shade will be willing to do the work.

You would be surprised, there is a strong return to retro things these days. I would follow some of the advice you were given above. You just never know who might be looking for these things. If push comes to shove, last but not least, try recycling them on Freecycle... at least if would be nice not to see it land up in a landfill. What's old is new again...is my philosophy.

If you paint them, use colors you like. Even different colors for different areas. With the option of the refinishing, your possibilities are endless.

There is a new trend and those old pink fixtures are in high demand. If you are interested we could get together. I live in Kansas.

@Charline We haven't started the demolition yet. I live about 45 minutes East of St. Louis. Is that something you would consider driving?

Becky, how did you get the tiles off without destroying them? I have the same tiles and although I know pink bathrooms are all the retro rage right now I can't stand them either .. In my research online it says it's very difficult to remove, let alone in one piece... any advice??

@Katherine S., I don't think so, we repurposed the cabinet out in the garage.

The removal is a problem for me - same issues, I am keeping the tile. Just need to replace a few. I do like the pink - very retro.

How funny! It IS very retro; my mother chose this dusty pink back in 1956 and then for 25 years redecorated almost annually. We had pink and white, pink and red, pink and lavender, pink and gray, pink and green..... I think you will love your gray. The gray is a nice neutral like white.
