Douglas Hunt on Dec 09, 2012Tammy, I am near the beach in Florida and have very sandy soil as well. All you can do is introduce as many organic materials as you can. The coffee grounds are a good idea. At a botanical garden in Miami they take all the grounds Starbucks gives them. Pots are certainly the way to go if you only have a balcony. Are there garden centers where you could buy some bagged compost?

Gen of North Coast Gardening on Dec 09, 2012Tammy, Douglas has great advice. Organic materials, and keep 'em coming. Though if you are gardening in pots you should always used a bagged potting soil mix, never soil from the ground.
