A Black Kitchen Hutch

This hutch has had many makeovers! I bought it for our last home because the kitchen didn't have enough storage - and continue using it in my current kitchen because the curse of space ( lack thereof ) seems to follow me from house to house lol!
I primed it with a homemade chalk paint version - 3 parts black latex paint - 1 part Plaster of Paris - ( mixing the plaster with a little water to make a paste before pouring it into the paint ). Once that was dried I gave the entire piece a coat of Rustoleum Chalkboard paint and a coat of Polyurethane to protect it ( may need another coat I think ).
I used a sander to heavily distress, but only around the edges where natural wear would have occurred. It was originally purchased from the Salvation Army for 37.50 - and it's going on it's 5th year as my kitchen hutch !
And here's what it originally looked like - blah

You did a marvelous job. I can see it in a library with books and pretty pieces in there. I can see it as a linen closet/hutch. In a small apartment as a room divider; in a large foyer as a display cabinet or trophy cabinet. It reminds me of some pieces from Ballard designs. Great Job.
    • @Divine Interiors Oh I wish I had the space to use it for books !!! Thanks so much for your over the top kind comment ! I was aiming for an old pub piece actually - not too sure if I succeeded but it does look old LOL !!!
  • What a beautiful piece, I love the black and distressed paint finish. End result's GREAT!
