Help! Ceiling paint bubbling problem
-
Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Feb 06, 2015There can be a few things that cause paint to bubble. But on most ceilings it can be a bit tricky to determine the cause. However, based upon the rest of your issues it sounds as though the old finish that was covered over by the new paint job was Oil based paint that was not properly prepared for the new water based paint to cover it. This is often the case when a home is being sold. Poor prep and poor paint quality was used. What is going on is that the new paint is simply not sticking to the old. What needs to be done at this point is to scrape as best you can the finish using a broad putty knife and some sand paper. , Then using spackle fill in these areas and sand to make the surface smooth again. Then using a good quality primer, not the paint and primer stuff and prime all of the surfaces. Once dry and according to the new finish paint directions refinish the walls once again. Any old finish that is not covered over using the spackle needs to be sanded so its dull in finish. Be sure to wipe any dust off as well.Helpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Feb 06, 2015just the areas that are peeling. But I would purchase a sanding pole like they use for drywall spackle and go over everything. Some areas may not have bubbled yet but are loose and you cannot see them. The sanding pole will bring them right out quickly.Helpful Reply
