Douglas Hunt on Feb 10, 2015Joann, I have to say that to a Floridian summer temperatures in the mid 70s hardly sounds hot! You can certainly have successful container plantings. Keep in mind that the bigger the container the more options you will have and the less you will have to be worried about watering. See this link for some excellent suggestions for the San Diego area from Las Pilatas Nursery, which has long specialized in California natives: http://www.laspilitas.com/garden/Native-plants-in-containers.htmlHelpful Reply

Loretta Clark on Feb 10, 2015I have lived in California, but I'm now in Alabama. Believe me, you have nothing to worry about if you use plants that are supposed to get direct sunlight. Instead of impatients, you could try vinca or petunias. Best wishes for a beautiful front porch!Helpful Reply
