Chalkboard paint can be used on anything paintable, I would think.

Do you mean you would like to put a saying or verse on a chalkboard, and have it be indelible? If so, Sharpies come in all sorts of colors. Also, if you are referring to having a permanent message on a chalkboard, there are white paint pens. This would give it more of a "chalk written" effect.

If you're looking to permanently seal a chalkboard that has a chalk design without erasing the chalk, use aerosol hairspray

The best chalkboard paint I have used is by Krylon. Two coats with a sponge brush is all that is needed. After 24 hrs of drying time, season the board by rubbing chalk all over it and then wipe off. Chalk board paint applies very well to wood, metal, sheetrock, etc. I like to turn cabinet doors into chalkboards. You can use acrylic paint to decorate the frame of the door as well as on top of the chalkboard.
