Pat Helmer on Feb 15, 2015The vents let the heat and moisture out. In a gas dryer it lets the fumes out. It also lets lint that has gone through the filter out. If that stays in it can overheat and start a fire.Helpful Reply

Christine Keating-Ingelse on Feb 15, 2015Is there a louvered cover over the exterior part of the vent hose? That should be all you need to allow heat and moisture out when the dryer is on and prevent cold air and critters from getting in when it isn't.Helpful Reply

Kathy DeWispelare on Feb 15, 2015No no no--never cover up the vent with anything that does not let the air out. Your dryer will not work well and your house may burn down!Helpful Reply

Cheryl HD on Feb 18, 2015Many houses now have the dryer vent running thru the walls, so I can't imagine it is a problem to hide them in a laundry room. Just make sure they're accessible in case you need to repair or replace them maybe? Are you covering them just for 'looks'? Or to insulate?Helpful Reply

Katrina Warren on Feb 18, 2015Covering the tube shouldn't cause a problem, just keep the vent opening on the exterior open. I've never seen a tube that ran up the wall & through cabinet shelves like that, I would want to disguise it some way too! :)Helpful Reply
