Thelma deppen on Feb 20, 2015Debbie, Hopefully I can repeat my note in brief: Loved your blog and chair is absolutely great with it's new makeover. (I'm scared to paint); will buy new foam and cover cushions. Any suggestions as to color/any design? Will try to use Olefin fabric but I cannot match it exactly. Thanks for caring and any advice would be appreciated, even if adverse to what I'm now thinking.Helpful Reply

Carole on Feb 20, 2015Buy new foam and recover with a colour that is plain and matches or something funky that will contrast but not clash with the remainder of the sofa. You could also try painting the whole thing after using a similar plain colour fabric. Use chalk paint. If the covers on the sofa are removable, you could try dying the whole lot the same colour for a new look. If you go for a contrasting texture of fabric in the same colours that could be a fun look. Years ago they used to make sofas with reversible cushions that had the same sofa fabric on one side so it all looks matched, then turn the cushion over for a contrasting colour in a boucle fabric or something for a change of look. Good luck with whatever you do. Foam comes in different density so if you get a firm foam that will last longer before it sags. It could also be the base of the sofa that makes the seat feel saggy rather than the foam, so take a look at what the cushions are sitting on before buying new foam. The sofa might need a fix up to the base to provide a firmer support for the cushions. If you buy foam and need to cut it, use a electric kitchen knife. Using shears or scissors will cut the edges slanted and crooked and they won't fit the cushion covers properly. Better still, get the foam cut to size so you don't need to cut it yourself.Helpful Reply
