One could use tea lights so they'd not have a mess in the glass to clean out after burning too. I hate cleaning wax from glass jars. Since I've gone flameless I'd probably use battery powered candles. With four cats I don't trust flames anywhere but behind the glass doors on the fireplace anymore.
