Shari on Mar 04, 2015Personally, I would stop into, or call, one of your local paint stores and ask one of the professionals who are knowledgeable about stain. They should be able to tell you what products are, and are not, compatible with one another. It would be sad and frustrating for you if you follow the well-meaning advice of someone here and it turns out to be wrong. Not only would it be time and money wasted, you might end up with a really big mess. That's just my 2 cents, for what it's worth...Helpful Reply

Gail Salminen on Mar 04, 2015You shouldn't use oil over latex. If you want a clear coat you could use acrylic. Oil over latex usually makes it peel. You could also talk to your paint retailer for advise. Hope this helps.Helpful Reply

Debbie on Mar 04, 2015I've always heard, "You can paint over stain but you can't stain over paint." Because of peeling.Helpful Reply
