Growing Ranunculus

I have always bought my ranunculus from the store, bright and cheery and already in bloom, but this year I am planting ranunculus from root stock. They remind me of the asparagus I tried planting last year that flopped. Can someone tell me which end goes up in the ground?
These are the root stock. They have finger like projections and kind of look like an octopus. But which end is up?

Plant the little bulbs with the "fingers" down.

I love ranunculus, but they are out of our zone... asparagus, I do have experience with. They start out small, and gain strength over the years. Always leave a percentage uncut, to nourish the plants for next season.

Yep.....fingers pointing down and make sure to plant at depth recommended for your area.

The eye is the the little flat part with the "fingers" pointing away from it. As the others have said, you want that at the top. When in doubt about a bulb, plant on its side and the bulb will usually right itself. Thank you, Douglas. I was pretty sure you would have good advice on planting these beauties in central Florida.
