How do you fix a wall that had old plastic paneling glued on?

SLS Construction & Building Solutions LLC on Mar 09, 2015I have had some good luck with putty knives for knocking it off before with minimal to no tearing off the paper - in other cases we simply choose to remove the drywall & redo it. Now we simply always plan on removing the drywall to fix any air-leakage / insulation areas & ensure that all the electrical & plumbing is in good conditionHelpful Reply

Shelley on Mar 09, 2015I've done this by putting the thinnest sheet rock you can find directly over the old wall.Helpful Reply

Gigi In The Forest on Mar 10, 2015If you are open to other things than painting you might cover the wall with fabric such as burlap, printed canvas or anything that has some weight to it. Staple it up and use thin trim to cover the staples. That way you can change it as your decor changes.Helpful Reply

Ann Goodrich-Bazan on Mar 10, 2015I had the exact same situation! I sanded as much as I could and then skim coated with sheetrock compound to create a smooth surface on the wall. Long and messy but the walls look great now!Helpful Reply

Annie Larson on Mar 14, 2015I ran into this twice. First time we had to pull out the old drywall and put in new. the second time it was a smaller area and less glue so we had a professional come in and smooth it down, then put an orange peel finish on itHelpful Reply
