Gail Salminen on Mar 11, 2015@Jane Wasylyk check with you local pool installers/maintenance companies, they usually have free tutorials in the spring and fall for opening, maintaining and closing your pool. We usually clean the filter in the fall before putting it into hibernation. The top of the sand part of the filter comes off easily and you can scoop out the debris that has collected. The water part of the filter is cleaned every few weeks - top also comes off and there is a basket inside which is taken out, hosed out and then replaced. We also have a pool company that we consult with regularly for water testing and problem solving. For floating debris we use the net to scoop it out and discard. Hope you enjoy your pool, the upkeep sounds like for than it really is.Helpful Reply

Anne on Mar 11, 2015Turn your pump on and let it circulate. It will catch the stuff floating on top. Backwash your filter after it clears. You will probably need to keep an eye on your chemicals because it will be killing whatever is floating on the water surface.Helpful Reply
