Sideboard Rescue

Mixing dark wax with mineral spirits makes it look dirty and old and gorgeous!
You know how sometimes a photograph can be deceiving?
First thing, I stripped the top to expose the beautiful wood underneath.
I removed the old, beautiful hardware and sanded the edges, roughing it up a bit.
I mixed 2 tablespoons of Annie Sloan Dark Wax with 1/4 cup of mineral spirits.
And I SLATHERED it on
and then wiped it away, with a paper towel.
Below, this is what I was left with. Lovely.
The residual wax piled into all the grooves and distressed areas.
Next step, I applied a dark stain to the top of the sideboard.
And now for my replacement hardware.
And this is how it looks in my living room with Downton Abby on the screen.
It has a TON of character, in my humble opinion.

Leah Wynne on Mar 11, 2015@Doodles & Stitches Have you tried Liz's Antique Hardware? They have EVERYTHING. We found doorplates and handles for our 1904 Colorado house. And you can send them a picture and ask them if they have what you need. I think they will ship to you. http://www.lahardware.com/
