Fitted sheets

I have an 18 inch mattress and no matter what kind of sheets I buy they never cover the side of the mattress. I purchased 20 inch fitted sheets but after one wash they were too small. I hate when the mattress sticks out. Most comforters or quilts do not fit my bed. What can I do to solve the problem?

If it is a queen size, you could try modifying king sheets. You might have to get a custom made bedspread for the bed rather than a comforter or quilt.

@Marion Nesbitt No it is a king sized bed, and I have not found anything that fits.

I have found that if I purchase real Egyptian Cotton sheets, I too no longer have this problem. I get mine at JCPenney or at Belks. For my quilts, I buy two queens and have them cut and sewn to fir my king.

Yes. One seam is seen into another. It's just a matter of lining up pattern and would seaming. You can tell by looking at it.

You have to be sure that you buys sheets that are specified "for deeper mattresses". I had to learn this the hard way, too. But there are plenty of them out there. Good luck!

I finally found some sheets at Target that fit the sides and all around my king size memory foam mattress. They are Fieldcrest Luxury Egyptian cotton 600 thread count. These fit!

@Elaine Goodner I haven't tried Target, I will go look there thank you.

Check out brylanehomes.com look under "Sheets" they now have fitted bottom sheets that stretch underneath the mattress. They aren't cheap but they work. They are about $75 a set.

@Trish Davenport Thanks Trish, I will look at Brylane haven't looked there in ages. I have spent more than $75 and they still shrink or just do not fit. I have found that even though some packages say deep pocket, that is not an indicator if they will fit an 18 inch deep mattress. I am almost ready to upholster the sides of the mattress, but I cannot sew that well. LOL

I also found some sheets at Target that fit wonderfully. They have 2 rows of elastic and don't seem to have the shrinkage problem. They are called Threshold Performance, 400 thread count, 100% cotton sateen weave. They are $30 - $60, twin to king size for a set.

I buy sheets that say "guaranteed to fit". J.C. Penny's sells them.

Looks like some good sources. Have the same problem with some of my older sheets fitting on new mattresses but the comforters are generous enough to cover.

    You might check QVC.com.

You might check Northern Nights brand on QVC.com or on TV. If they don't work, they'll let you return them.

@Dee I just checked on line and the fitted sheet is only up to 15 1/2 inches. My mattress is 18 1/2 inches.

Dee,Have you thought about buying flat sheets to use for your bottom sheets?
  • Debbie Kuhar Debbie Kuhar on Mar 13, 2015
ALl that I do is look for sheets that says for "deep pockets".
  • Hope Williams Hope Williams on Mar 15, 2015
Exactly Debbie. If your mattress is 18", buy 20" deep pockets. I have a 24" and have solved it by getting 24" DEEP pockets.

I buy mine at Kohls I love them their for wide mattresses.
    • Dee Dee on Mar 15, 2015
@Carol lewis Do you know the width of the pocket. Some say wide mattresses but do not fit the 18+ inch ones.
