Cobb County - Homeowners Permit

Jill on Mar 15, 2015No, I think most places you working as your own contractor is acceptable. Who you subcontract with is also your prerogative. The only thing they care about is that whoever does the work, has done it right. Otherwise when inspections come around it will not pass, and you cannot continue with the work until it is correct and up to grade, or will be forced to take it down. That being said, you will also need to submit building plans. Do you or have you someone to draw them up? Or are you purchasing plans from a company that sells them stock out of business? Are they drawn for the building codes where you live? They must be very detailed to show exact measurements and other things depending on what you are building. Also remember, using your own friends might be cheaper, but do they truly know their stuff? Have you done or do you know of other building jobs with them before? Another thing, if things go wrong, since they do not hold a contractor's license, you cannot go after them in court for jobs done wrong, plus it could damage your friendship when all is said and done.Helpful Reply
