Cream would be pretty and color could be brought in with accent pillows etc.

Hi Sierra! The paper your mum has chosen is very neutral, despite the fact that it has gold strands running through it. For all of the trim, I would stay in the same color family but in a much lighter shade. I am not sure what paint companies you have in the UK, but Benjamin Moore has a color capture app for your phone- you take a pic and then it will analyze the colors and give you suggestions. If you don't have Ben Moore, I am sure if you take the chosen color samples to your local paint store they would be able to match it. http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/for-your-home/color-capture?OVMTC=Exact&site=&creative=12342992033&OVKEY=benjamin%20moore%20color%20capture&url_id=133315661&adpos=1t1&device=c&devicemodel=&gclid=CjwKEAjw876oBRCYr86w6KGfpkgSJAACIidwdrznpPJB4_gKnhwf7tYx7uhXnzd8x_JywPGjSyfUDhoCwHXw_wcB The color your mum chooses for the carpet really depends on the overall feeling she wants to achieve. Because the wall paper is a neutral beige and gold, the choices are endless but since she obviously loves those colors, why not go for a carpet with soft gold tones in it? Then you can choose furnishings and accessories in either cool color combos- like blues and greens- or warm colors likes reds and corals.

If it is possible I would take a good size sample in when picking the carpet colour.- there are so many different shades of the same color and it can made a difference how they look together..OR If the wall paper is already up, some carpet stores will have samples that you can bring home to test colours...this option also gives you some idea of what it could actually look like in the room with the lighting and furniture already in the room...

Although the colours are fairly neutral, you can always put some colour on the walls with a painting or two.

A mid to light shade of grey - no pun intended!

all your 'hard surfaces' should be neutral....carpet, kitchen cupboards, counter tops, tubs etc. wallpaper and paint are easy fix's and of course accessories. the wall paper looks fairly neutral. go into your mom's closet and see what her favorite colour is by looking at her clothes...you can use different shades and tones of that colour...have fun!

The wallpaper is very neutral indeed. But it will have an undertone which might be yellow, pink, green, etc. My suggestion when shopping for carpet: Take the wallpaper and carpet samples outdoors. Don't make a decision based upon your impression under showroom lighting. That said, I would select a flooring product that is noticeably darker than the wallpaper. I always try to avoid matching wallpaper (or paint) to carpet because that can look like what I call a 'near miss'.
