Lagree Wyndham on Mar 24, 2015Chair is beautiful, I would recover the fabric and let her ride, all wood does not have to match, gives an eclectic look. Thats just me iIhate painting over wood work.Helpful Reply

Terra Kubalek on Mar 24, 2015I had a chair similar to that. I did something very drastic and cut the back off at the seat. I added a 1x1 strip of wood to the bottom of back to make a framed up back. I inserted an oval mirror on the back piece with gorilla glue. I painted the frame black first. I sold the piece at market for $80! The base of the chair I painted black as well, and found an old leather coat at a salvage shop for $12. I cut the back of the coat out and recovered the chair seat with the leather and an inch of foam. I sawed down the legs to about an inch below the braces, this brought the base down to the perfect size for an ottoman. This worked for my chair because the seat was not tapered, it had a square seat. I sold that piece at market for $100. So for an old piece of furniture I had little use for, and a few hours of elbow grease, I ended up profiting about $150. after materials!Helpful Reply

Li'l megs on Mar 24, 2015...a piece of fabric wrapped around the centre panel with recovered matching seat fabric ; could also pad it for comfort - if you want to paint it I would dab darker paint into the fancy crevices so that they stand out when a light coat is added overall - best wishes with your project xxxxxHelpful Reply
