What is best type of netting to protect blueberry bushes from pests?

Natalie Gibbs on Mar 26, 2015Maybe chicken wire? I am making a sort of cage to cover my few strawberry pants, they eat them while still white, sigh.Helpful Reply

Meem Kaplan on Mar 26, 2015I tried the bird netting on mine, too. But the birds would fly underneath and get caught under the netting. Which actually kept them away until one would come around that hadn't seen another have that trouble. This year I'm tempted to just build a cage around each of them. CDs hanging didn't stop them either. I may just get another Patriot bush as they are really prolific and larger and just make sure I get out to pick every couple of days. I wish you luck. Sometimes we just have to share some of them.Helpful Reply

Lucy Nunn on Mar 28, 2015I don't know about squirrels, but I use foil pinwheels from the toy department (about $1 each) and the birds stay away from my blackberries.Helpful Reply

Alice Gatto on Mar 28, 2015We used to put old tablecloths over the berry plants when the fruit was getting ripe. This protected the fruit from pests and frost and the end of the season. The netting never worked for us either.Helpful Reply
