I want to paint my kitchen cabinets

Question

My kitchen cabinets are laminate. Has anyone used Chalk Paint to paint kitchen cabinets? Details please.

Yes, chalk paint is the best thing since apple pie. With it or milk paint you can paint right over the cabinets without even sanding them. Although you will want to degrease them a bit. You can then use a paste wax to give them a rubbed look after you are pleased with the paint you use. If not you can paint right over it with another color. The paint is very forgiving and you can even make your own out of old paint you may have around. Just search on Pinterest on how to make it. Very simple.

I've used chalk paint on other laminate surfaces, and I do love it. I would definitely finish with a few coats of wax, either clear if you want to keep the look of the paint as is, or dark wax if you want to age or distress them. The wax will make the surface water-resistant and more durable, so you shouldn't get chips, etc.

what if the laminate is peeling... do you remove it first?

You can easily peel of the laminate, leaving a much better surface for painting.
