Cole Cat on Mar 29, 2015Our whole house is painted over wall paper. Layers upon layers of 70s wallpaper just wouldn't come off. It looks OK, but any tears or seams are clear as day once painted over. I did get the gumption to take down the 3 layers in my sons room. It took forever, but it is by far the best looking room in the house.Helpful Reply

Dee Moreland Jones on Mar 29, 2015you CAN paint over it, but it will not give u a very nice finish... you can removed the backing paper easily with 50/50 solution of fabric softener ( use no scent if u can get it .. it gets strong even tho floral) and water....use a spray bottle and spray the paper down and let it set a few minutes - 20 min and then use a plastic putty knife and it will scrap away easily/Helpful Reply

KimJ on Mar 29, 2015If only the paper backing is left you'll be much happier with the final look if you remove it. The paint is going to get it moist/wet & since it's only paper(ish) the moisture from the paint will find it's way to the adhesive- then that'll be a headache. To me, it'll be pretty easy to spray/moisten then just scrape off AND you'll get the wallpaper glue at the same time - Good Luck!Helpful Reply
