Edging barrier to stop rye grass

My front lawn and my neighbors has no division or separation. When we moved in 2 years ago, we sod the front and back yard, this last fall I noticed my neighbor had what I though were a lot of weeds, but was told it is rye grass. Over the winter this rye grass or weed completely covered the area, and invaded my side almost killing my St. Augustine. I hand pulled it out, and the St. Augustine is starting to come back, but since my neighbor hasn't done anything, it is starting to creep into my side of the lawn.
What can I do to stop it? Though a metal or stone edging, on both sides and in between the 2 edgings plant densely liriope, mondo grass, aztec grass, etc.? Anyone know if this will work???

Depending on the space...both from a design perspective and to keep your St. Augustine looking great, I think I would place a landscape bed between the two maybe 5-6ft wide. Depending on the privacy factor, using taller to shorter shrubs, maybe some ornamental grasses, dayliles....dress it up a bit. Your idea of metal edging could work, but I think it will detract from you landscape and may look a bit odd. You might could do with a bit of curvature to it to decrease the straight line eye magnet, but it still may be difficult to maintain well.
