Ugly Grey Vinyl Foot Stool Gets a Pretty Makeover

Even over Easter break, the revamping continues. I bought this ugly little stool with a grey vinyl cushion on ebay for ten dollars. Even at ten dollars, I probably paid too much but I knew I had stuff in my makeovers stash that could fix this up and make it pretty. I removed the ugly vinyl cushion cover, only to find there was very little substance to the stool. A thin piece of board and looked like someone had stood on the stool and broke it. So, before I could clean it, sand it, paint it and wax it and recover the cushion there were some little repairs to be done. As luck would have it, I had a piece of MDF in the garage that fit almost perfectly to replace the broken board. I only had to saw one side of it to make it fit. Then I unscrewed the legs and strengthened the legs by screwing through the little triangular supports that were coming adrift from the inside of the frame where the legs were. Then the fun began. Here are the before and after shots. Hope you like! I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint (ASCP) in French Linen and that was two coats of paint prior to waxing with clear wax and distressing the legs a little to show the angles on them and rubbing over with a little brown wax sparingly on the details.
After - ASCP French Linen light and dark wax
Ugly grey vinyl and missing button
Adjustable foot stool
Broken board and dodgy 'fix'
Close up of fabric - Lilac cockatoo

Barb in Texas on May 18, 2015This is really cute, and I love your fabric. I have to say, I was hoping it was a stencil but oh well. That chair is also adorable.
