Need suggestions on steps down a hill side

These steps would lead to the door to our walk-out basement apartment. Installing a new door in place of a slider. We will need to make a walk way from the bottom of the steps that leads to the door.

I guess the biggest question besides what are you looking for (materials, style) is what is the rise (height from top to bottom) to the run (length you have to use) I have seen wooden stairs used, railroad ties filled with gravel / plants, a trail being created, to concrete being used - the sky is the limit in some cases, the catch is what are the limits & what look are you after?
