Redoing my stool

Luann
by Luann
I was at a yard sale and saw this stool and it was one of those things that I just had to have. I didn't care how much it cost I had to have it. The top swivels. I love it and I want to redo it. I need some ideas. We love country and western we live on a farm. Oh by the way I paid $1 for the stool!

I would glue western belts with their buckles just below and above the wetting. A cattle 'brand ' might be stencilled on the seat. Good luck!

We do have our own brand and I never thought of painting that on the seat once I recover it thank you for that idea. My husband will love that idea and he would be very surprised by that!

I would buy a round pillow or recover the existing one.

@Luann I also think instead of painting with chalk paint I would buy a gel stain, SW has some nice colors to stain the legs.

I would paint out the wood legs and metal brace in a off white or tan chalk paint and then just cover the existing seat in a lovely floral with a background color to match the painted part of the stool. Good luck - be sure to post some after photos!

You could paint the legs, etc. with black and white however you wish to define, then cover the seat in black-and-white Holstein print fabric.

Thanks for all the great ideas I think I may be on the way to hitting hard sales this morning for some fabrics?

I would paint the legs a high gloss black and recover the seat with faux cowhide. Yes haw!

If I were as lucky as you to find this little guy, I would try out some of the gel stains that I read about yesterday on Hometalk for the legs, and then the faux cow hide or Veloba pony would be super. Also love the idea of faux leather with your brand stenciled on. How fun!

If You use cowhide, could you use your brand on it before using to cover seat?

Branding the seat is a novel idea and would definitely be unique to you. Branding actual cowhide is something I'm sure you're familiar with but branding fabric might pose a challenge. If you do use fabric and decide you are going to brand it, I recommend testing the "brand' on a scrap of the fabric. I'm reminded of how fabric can be scorched when one is ironing. Just a thought before you get started so you don't have any untoward surprises and waste some fabric.

@Luann Probably the best solution. Branding would weaken the fabric and a stool such as this would most likely get plenty of use. No sense in asking for trouble.
