Trio of dressers - Help!

Erin Maloney
by Erin Maloney
I need help! These three dressers need to be used together. What can I do to make them a more cohesive looking group? I've been thinking chalk paint and changing the knobs on all drawers but I'm not sure if that will actually make them look worse! Any and all suggestions welcome. Remember - the three have to be used together!

Paint all three the same color and then paint just the tops a coordinating color. For example, paint all three black, paint the tops red and then coordinate all the hardware.
  • Chalkpaint and new knobs seems like a great start! Do they need to be side by side, because arranging them in different places in the room would help. Also, I have seen cute pieces made from stacking two of the three--unless this is for a kids' room, then safety would be an issue.

Coordinating paint chips! Maybe not as bright as the drawers in the example shown here - http://www.hometalk.com/diy/craft-room/paint-chip-cabinet-doors-1977718 - but something similar would look good with the tops all stained the same. Then add the same/similar knobs!

Hi there, how about buying a roll of wallpaper with a shabby chic design on and covering the drawers with that , they would all be the same and then you could use a gold coloured paint spray to spray the knobs\handles or a colour of your choice, have fun and enjoy your project jan in uk

I would put the two dressers that are the same height together.Paint them the same color with tops the same stain (but different color from the base of the dressers). Then I would take the shorter dresser, turn it on its side and re work the drawers to be as they are now or horizontal drawers, or even open shelves. The short dresser would need to be coordinated maybe a flowered design or even a stenciled word or two to tie them together.

Use chalk paint because it would require nothing but a good cleaning and a kittle goes a long way. Checkout youtube for easy diy tutorials.

Attach legs to the short one, paint them all the same color. Add matching knobs.

I would first bring them all to the same height. Either by taking the bottom of the tall ones or adding to the short one. Then paint all of them the same color and add the same drawer pulls. If they are to go side by side, I would make one top for all three of them.

You might want to stack the green one on top of the the tallest one since the green one has a flat base.It would be easy to anchor them to each other with Lstraps from behind and underneath. I would line the edge of the backs up and mount the green one toward one side of the taller one so there would be more flat surface available. Next I would paint all of them the same color and attach matching handles. I've seen handles made from rope or from stripes of fabric made into loop type pulls. Even heavy ribbon could be cute. If its for a bedroom they could be matched to the bedspread colors. If you push the shorter chest against the taller stacked ones and then mount something on the wall in the space above the shorter it would make it appear more like one unit. Mount something like a mirror, fabric covered bulletin board, shelves or even something with hooks for jewelry, baseball hats or what ever depending on the use of the room. Another idea would be to use the shorter one next to a bed as a night stand or in another part of the room with a chair on either side of it. The main thing is to have all or most of the furniture painted the same color so it blends together. Hope you have fun with it and it turns out really cute.

I would use the same color chalkpaint on all 3 and then take all the drawer fronts and paint them another color

The two on each side seems to be the same height. Paint all three the same color , take off all old knobs and pulls replace with ones that go with the color in the room. Take wood that would go all the way across all three and paint it the same color as the dressers. This will also give you a little storage nook between the middle one and the top to put a wicker basket in. I would also get a larger decorative mirror to go over it.

Like the idea of a piece of wood cut to fit over all 3... and maybe a small wood trim to cover the edge ( glue and nail with small finishing nails ) that would give you another Storage placeunder the top of the middle one... raise up the middle one with some wood under neath like a 2X4 etc/legs... put wood Knobs on the one with metal ones - paint all 3 the same color not necessarily Black but maybe a lighter ? color that is used in the room already.. .Can't wait to see photo of what you finish with... OH yes and paint the Mirror after you attach a wider Frame to match... Have Fun... Can you put some of the Stuff thats on top of the White Dresser in a Drawer?

Use same color scheme or patterns on all 3 and change the knobs. Don't even need to use knobs but think outside the box 😉

I would choose a color you love, paint them all the same, distress and replace all the knobs with matching ones.

You could paint them all the same exact color to start. The two on the end look like they're the same height, and if they are, I'd push all three right up against each other and make a solid top to cover all three dressers. Where the opening is on the shorter dresser I'd put two baskets to put all the make up and brushes and stuff into. That would leave it very handy, and yet not always on display. Remove the mirror and center the tv. This would, I think, make it look more cohesive and give you a more finished look. I hope you post pics of the after, I'd love to see them!! Good Luck!

@Amy Ogden-Paparone well that was repetitious, I really have to start reading other peoples posts before saying anything! LoL

Would do similar to Kathy. I would try to make the bottoms cut straight (if possible) like the middle one. Keep the lower one in the middle. Screw them together. Then add a sheet of wood to go over all three. The lower one will end up having an open space which is OK. Paint everything and have the same hardware.

Before making suggestions I would like to know why the three units must be together? What size is the room? Are you short of space? e.g.could the smallest unit be put in the closet and the two joined together if they are equal in height. What is the purpose of each unit? Is this for one individual or more? Girls or boys room? and what age or ages? Could storage be put under the bed or beds and perhaps a unit eliminated? Hope to hear from you soon.
  • Erin Maloney Erin Maloney on May 30, 2015
The room is quite small, perhaps 10' x 11'. The room is mine, a grown woman. The three units are all I have to hold my clothing and personal items other than a small closet. The closet has clothes and things such as my sewing machine in it and is full. The dressers won't fit on any other wall because of windows. In the room are also a double bed, my desk and a night stand. The space allows me to walk around the bed and to sit at the desk I have to sit on the bed. All of these items need to stay in the room. Hope that gives you a better idea.
  • Erin Maloney Erin Maloney on May 30, 2015
Oops, meant to say also that there are already under the bed storage boxes.
  • Miranda Jagoszewska Miranda Jagoszewska on May 31, 2015
What about removing your desk and using one of these units (or two) to make a new desk by putting top of the desk on top of it?
