Using Celery as Art! And The Rest As A Snack!

With a package of celery, cut off at the base, this has the appearance of a flower shape. This is great to use if you are not good at free hand flowers. Also better than a stencil.
I found this tray at my local thrift store for $1. I wanted to give it a feminine/shabby chic look for an upcoming room.
The tray was painted pink. Now it's ready for stenciling.
I chose to use matte acrylic paints.
With my brushes I took the base of my celery and applied 3 shades of pink in spots to show more detail. You can try your first stamp on paper to see if the colors or print agrees to your liking.
Take your celery and press firm. This does not have to be perfect! Change your colors more or less to show that each flower is different as you press more. After doing a few large ones, remove some of the stalk pieces to make smaller roses.
2 smaller stalks were taped together to make leaves. Using 2 shades of green, paint the ends with brush. Press in between and outside of roses. Stand back and look, your tastes could be more or less.
Love how this came out! It gives a shabby chic look! This can also done for a vintage look!
This one of the few pieces that will go into an upcoming space.Lets not forget after your hard work, you have a nice leftover snack!
I have a new blog Bargaingardencottagedesign.com. Hope to see you there!

Done making flowers? Cut the painted edges off, wash and skim off the base edge (root area) place in shallow dish, keep water 1/2". Refresh water every 2-3 days. Kept mine in sunny kitchen window for reminder. It will start to grow new celery in approx. 2 weeks. Once growth is 2-3 inches high, plant in garden (mine is in my flower garden).. You are growing celery!!! Doing this every 2 weeks for fresh celery. Can do onions the same way using the root system you cut off before chopping. Mine grew three onion tops. I used scissors to divide them. Got 3 onions out of 1. This will not happen every time but fun for my grandson to watch things grow.
  • I do mixed media art and I love this idea. I use things around the house but never thought of using celery, now I'll have to look a little further. It turned out beautiful on the pink tray, love it!
