Update kitchen cabinets

Our cabinets are in good condition. We are planning on selling and I am wanting to get rid of the black around the edge of the cabinet/drawers. So any suggestions please.
Would like to remove the black around the edge of kitchen cabinets.

Well, you have a few choices. You can clean and lightly sand your cabinets before refinishing them with gel stain or paint. I know of no way to simply pull off the black edging without working on the whole doors. If the black edging was applied after the doors were sealed then you have a chance to strip the finish away to expose the stain beneath. That's a long shot, but it might be worth a try.

Have you talked to your realtor about It? I ask because the guy who sold us our home, spent around $30,000 in updates and we ripped every bit of it out. I just painted my cabinets white and, while I love it, not everyone likes white. It may be better for you to leave as is knowing someone will probably redo them after they move in. But I would definitely talk to your realtor and see if they think it is worth the money, time and expense. Good luck!

Personally, I think your cabinets look in really good shape - and they are not boring.. If I bought your home, I'd add black in the grooves and possibly put on new hardware. With some other black accents or appliances, I would be really happy. That's just me - maybe a bit out there. However, I would not spend a lot - agree with The Rozy Home.

Hi! If it is just the doors with the black glazing, then I would remove them, sand them down all the way to where the "frame" ends and the indent begins. Then restain with one that matches-there are so many colors now you should be able to find something very close. If you can't match exactly, then I would go a little darker rather than lighter-that will look more intentional. Then just re-poly in whatever finish is already on the cabinets. But Rozy is right- the new people are going to change it for their style so don't go too crazy on it.

Definitely paint them with "Reclaim" off white. You can clean your cabinets with Simple Green or other degreaser and you only need to sand lightly if the surface is really shiny. Reclaim is different from chalk paint in that leaves an eggshell, not flat finish, and you don't need to wax. It goes on anything, including laminate, metal, brick, glass, tin, etc. with little or no prep. I did the kitchen in the picture with a little more than a gallon of paint (there were 20 cabinets in all). There is also a texture paint from the same company called Caromal Colours. I wouldnt change them!!!! Black accents are in right now. If I did anything i would update the knobs and it would make a world of difference. Its the knobs more than anything thats dating the cabinets. You could go with silver or black. Just make sure if you dont want to patch holes that you get knobs that are the same size. (measure the distance between the screws or take one with you) You will be amazed at the transfermation!

Wow, as a staunch lover of white kitchens (and one who is not so fond of dark wood), I'm surprised I actually like your cabinets, as is! I don't recall having ever seen this treatment before and I think the black edges look nice--at least in this small peek at the cabinets you have shown us. Maybe a whole kitchen of it is different but based on this photo, I would agree with some of the others--if you are planning to sell soon, save your time, effort and money. The cabinets are unique--in a good way. As Leslie mentioned, changing the hardware could be a nice, fairly inexpensive update (oil rubbed bronze, maybe?) but I would let the next owner customize the cabinets to their taste, if they so desire.

I just redid my cabinets..I purchased Rust-oleum's cabinet transformations..comes in many colours..3 easy steps..no sanding involved..was easy and fairly quick to do..good luck :)

We painted our cabinets with white semi gloss paint from Lowe's (hubby painted while I was at work, lucky to be married to a painter), the previous owners had two different colors goingand looked so outdated and they look like new cabinets now. Very easy to wipe down when using a gloss paint, especially in the kitchen with teenagers.
